Prevention of Obesity

Supportive Environments

The Canadian population is living in an “obesogenic” environment made of suburbs traveled mainly by car and inadequate workplaces. Is it ethical to reduce physical education periods in our schools or not to provide urban environment where the can safely play? Should parents limit the time they allow their children to watch television?

Obesity is the result of a made-man environment, therefore in theory, man should be able to resolve this disastrous situation”.

The mission of the Coalition québécoise sur la problématique du poids is to ask for public policies to help improve environments facilitating healthy eating, regular physical activity and a realistic perception of a healthy weight, body and mind. These claims are specifically targeting the following: the agri-food sector (agriculture, food processing, distribution, research and development, marketing of food products, etc.), the man-built environment sector (land-use, transportation, urban planning, building code, etc.), and the socio-cultural sector (media, advertising, fashion, body care industry, work-family balancing, family policy, etc.
